About AP Intego

We’re the leading digital insurance agency for small businesses and one of the fastest-growing insurtech companies.

Business insurance. Uncomplicated.

Tech +

Our company was founded with a singular idea: to uncomplicate business insurance for small business owners.

Since 2013, our approach has been to apply tech innovation to the traditional insurance agency
experience to deliver amazing customer service. That’s the AP Intego difference.

APIs that connect our agents to our carrier and affinity partners.

Online customer platform enabling businesses to purchase and manage their policies in one place.

Flexible, integrated billing, including the industry’s most advanced and seamless Pay As You Go workers’ comp technology.

World-class sales & service agents who go the extra mile to deliver outstanding customer experience.

So here’s our story…

Steve Hauck and Eric Harnden met in an unexpected way: on a boat. On a lake. In Utah (where neither is from). Turns out, they grew up about a dozen miles from each other just outside of Boston.

Business partners – and friends – for nearly 20 years, their working relationship has spanned the high highs and the low lows of tech startup-dom.

Leaving steady jobs and paychecks, they founded Agencyport in 2000 with a vision of building killer apps for the insurance industry. Eric would handle tech, Steve would tackle the market. You know how this goes: a couple of hungry entrepreneurs completely throw themselves at the task, live on the knife’s edge, try, fail, pivot, try again, learn, evolve. The struggle was real. Then they find the magic, develop great products and build a successful company with a smart brand.

Throughout the journey, Eric and Steve accumulated deep and nuanced expertise of the insurance industry, from one end to the other, learning how to apply amazing tech to solve big problems, and the importance of the human heart in everything from service to company culture. High-tech and high-touch would be the way to go.

Fast forward to 2020 and AP Intego is the realization of their earliest ambitions: one of the fastest growing insurtech companies, pushing the boundaries of a sweet insurance experience for small business.

Leadership

Eric Harnden

Eric Harnden kicked off his career in insurtech (even before it was a thing) by working in tech for companies like Putnam Investments and John Hancock. He spent a lot of time in Silicon Valley in those days, absorbing the kinetic energy and deep lessons of that fabled training ground. But instead of becoming part of that tech wave, he came back home to Boston to make waves of his own with his entrepreneurial ambitions.

Flash forward a few years and Eric (along with his to-this-day business partner, Steve Hauck) is co-founding Agencyport, creating a suite of innovative software applications that helped insurance companies differentiate their distribution strategies, improve efficiencies, and make it easier for agents to do business.

After selling Agencyport, they decided to re-engage at a new company founded on the mandate of solving big insurance problems for small businesses by combining technology with human-centered customer experiences. Again, tech +

That company is AP Intego.

Today, Eric spends his days (and nights) as co-managing director, serving in the role as both visionary and day-to-day leader.

Eric is originally from Concord, MA. He is a graduate of Connecticut College.

Steve Hauck

From the long hallways of the nation’s leading insurance carriers to the long sales cycles of affinity partnerships, there are few people who have more practical knowledge of the insurance distribution and technology landscape than Steve Hauck. He’s a master of converting actionable insights into market momentum for the businesses he leads. This pragmatic approach has accelerated AP Intego to be one of the fastest growth insurtech companies in the nation.

Before becoming the co-managing director of AP Intego, Steve spent 15 years as co-founder and co-CEO of Agencyport along with his then (and current) business partner, Eric Harnden. Agencyport made its mark as a pioneering software company that commercialized a suite of innovative software applications to help the insurance industry improve efficiencies, and provide better information and service up and down the carrier-agency-policyholder value chain. How did Agencyport successfully break through to an entrenched industry that at the time neither wanted nor understood the value of its offerings? Well, sometimes the immovable object does indeed yield to the unstoppable force. And that’s Steve. And that’s what he brings to AP Intego every day.

Steve started his career on Wall Street at Shearson Lehman Brothers, cut his fintech teeth with E-Trade. He is a graduate of Denison University.

Jenn used to work at Geico Insurance as a claims adjuster, but she’s been with AP Intego for over ten years now, and has managed both our customer service and operations departments. While she loves living in the Rochester area for the seasons and the lifestyle, she’d also be be just fine with traveling through Southern Europe with no agenda.

Dennis has worked for several startups in the technology space, driving business development and strategic partnerships. He also drives his teenage boys all across the Eastern seaboard to their baseball tournaments. In his free time, he’s working on his memoir: “Don’t Encourage Him: The Dennis Fosberg Story.”

Katie brings 25+ years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant working in public & private accounting roles. When she’s not wrangling spreadsheets she can usually be found rinkside, cheering on her daughters’ hockey games, or rocking out to an Elvis tune.

Don takes pride in flouting our company policy on bios, and declined to be blurbed. He doesn’t even like the internet.

Anne has devoted her career to creating nurturing, empowering environments that make people psyched to come to work. Before coming to AP Intego she spent two decades at Westfield Capital Management, and Standish, Ayer and Wood, Inc. Besides being a veritable human resources guru, Anne plays the role of actual guru by leading a daily meditation practice in our Waltham office. She’s an avid outdoorsy-type, and also the mother of identical twin girls and a fraternal golden retriever.

Once upon a time, Ann was a business analyst, but then AP Intego recognized her amazing talent for insurtech product management, and the rest is history. Deep down, however, Ann is a writer who will probably food-blog her way across the country someday.

Christine's spent years in the insurance industry as a business analyst and working on software and product development. Now she's heading up our tech ops team, leveraging technology to make us a lean, mean insurance operations machine. Christine is also a passionate tennis fan, from the US Open to Wimbledon, so be sure to ask her about recent surprising matches or her favorite players.

Chris has traveled an interesting path to get to his current position. He’s spent most of the past decade in the insurance world, but before that he was a sports writer for the Democrat & Chronicle newspaper in his native Rochester, NY. And he says he’s found significant overlap in his twin passions of sports and insurance... For instance, he loves the challenge of helping small businesses understand the complexities of their insurance, much like he enjoys the challenge of finding new ways each season to tolerate the incompetence of the Cleveland Browns.

Norm brings 33 years of software engineering and commercial insurance expertise to AP Intego. Before that he was a harpsichord maker. He’s originally from Hoosick, NY, but he got to Maine as fast as he could. Freshwater bass everywhere both fear and revere him.

Andrew has spent most of his career working with startups and helping them scale rapidly through partner relationships, though he did also try his hand at owning a bakery in Boston with his brother once upon a time. Ask him about their sourdough bread.

Julie brings good cheer, contagious laughter, and over two decades of expertise in small business operations and sales support to our Rochester office every day. Helping people is what she loves about working in the insurance industry, whether that means helping them prepare for what the future may hold, or just making their day a little brighter. A Rochester native, she daydreams about sandy beaches with turquoise water, and looks forward to summer ten months out of the year.

Bob’s background is in IT and HCM in the payroll industry, and he first learned about AP Intego as one of our partners. Now he heads up our business development team. He can trace his ancestry back to Charlemagne, and if you look carefully, you can totally see the resemblance.

You’ll pretty much always find Mason swimming around the confluent waters of technology, finance, and insurance. Like most fintech hounds he loves data and hates roadblocks to launching new products. Unlike most others of this ilk, however, he’s a bonafide survivor of a plane crash landing. Like out of a movie or something. Think of him as the Tom Hanks character from Castaway, if the island paradise he’d washed up on were Manhattan instead of a tropical no-man's-land.

Maybe you already know that Curt has a storied background as an insurtech entrepreneur, founding Back Bay Technologies, and leading AgencyPort Software and Duck Creek Technologies, among other accomplishments. But did you also know that he devotes much of his free time to helping people with physical and cognitive challenges participate in sports, and to inner city youth leadership education at a place called Hale, where he’s Chair of the Board? Well, now you do.

Unlike most humans, Pam doesn’t find insurance boring, and she loves how the industry is changing and evolving, but still maintaining people and relationships at its core. She’s spent her career in all facets of the insurance and finance world, and considers herself a sales/relationships and operations/technical hybrid. She didn’t write this bio, but she could have (in English OR in Greek!), as she’s currently working on a writing certificate at UC Berkeley.

Geoff has been doing software engineering and product management for insurance technology for over fifteen years. He lives in Denver, CO, where he spends time on college football, craft beer and writing some "pretty decent code." Geoff’s superpower is the ability to find the perfect GIF for any situation.

Jimmy D has been with AP Intego for over eight years, starting out as a sales agent and currently serving as the sales team lead. You don’t need to tell him that he reminds you of Jim from “the Office”—he already knows. You could congratulate him on recently getting his first-ever hole in one in a golf game, though.

Dave’s been in marketing and communications since the beginning. He started in a small business, moved to a global bank, left for a tech startup, then moved onto ad agencies and PR firms. Dave is a very wise man; we know this because a) he has a Labradoodle named Harry; b) he lives in Maine; and c) he never eats seafood if he’s more than 300 miles from the coast.

Scott specializes in digital marketing and business development, with a focus on defining and building new markets. He loves exploring new types of partners and businesses for whom insurance makes a real difference. We love hearing his laugh resonate throughout the office (which is good, because we hear it A LOT). Five words that accurately describe Scott are: fiercely passionate about Golden Retrievers.

Pradeep has been engineering ways to modernize and improve the insurance experience for over fifteen years. He’s skilled at reusing, be it code, furniture or seeds from his garden. Best compliment he’s ever gotten? "Competitors can’t have what we have because they don’t have Pradeep." We wholeheartedly agree.

A Fairport, NY native, Jeff knows his way around Upstate New York almost as well as he knows his way around an ice hockey rink—but nowhere near as well as he knows his way around a workers’ comp policy. Jeff has been in workers’ comp for over 15 years, and still gets a thrill from helping small businesses secure their insurance needs.

If insurance was the Star Wars universe and customer-centricity was the Force, Randy Storms would be Yoda. But “insurance Jedi Master” is just one of his many titles around AP Intego. He’s been working in the insurance and payroll realm since 1998, and while he’s technically our Director of Sales, his most important role is keeping our family of sales agents entertained, and he finds many...creative ways to accomplish this.

Jen started her insurance career in sales and worked her way up the ranks to management; she’s been with AP Intego for nearly ten years. All her coworkers want to know is… what’s behind the smile? All Jen wants to know is, “When can I finally capture the perfect beach sunset on camera?”

We’re here to help.
